operaMy mother wants to take Opera off of her system completely. She need some help as she is trying to uninstall Opera Browser. She has deleted it out of the Start menu and out of everywhere she could see, but when she tried to open websites it says it cannot initialize Opera. It will not use Internet Explorer.

How do you uninstall Opera?
So far I’ve gone the built-in uninstaller working but left one file behind since it said there might be a conflict with other programs. I see from the Windows Explorer that it still have the Opera folder under Programs.

To uninstall Opera in the Control Panel, I have gone through such steps:
1. Open the Control Panel from the Start menu in Windows.
2. Open “Add or Remove Programs”,
3. Locate Opera in the list of installed programs. Click “Remove” to uninstall Opera.

Unfortunately, this did not remove user created files and settings though I know where Opera stores its settings. In order to completely remove an Opera installation, the following directories must be removed after performing a normal uninstalls such as:
C:\Program Files\Opera
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Opera

In cases you cannot find these two paths for Opera, you can go to Help > About Opera. Under “Paths” in the About Opera page, look for the path to your preferences – the Opera6.ini file. This file will be needed to completely remove Opera from your system.

If you didn’t use separate settings when installing Opera, you will only have to remove your Opera installation folder. To find out if this is the case, look at the location of the file Opera6.ini, which you found earlier, and compare it to the path to your main Opera installation folder. If the location of the Opera6.ini file is different from the location of Opera.exe, you are using separate settings and will have to delete two folders manually. Before proceeding, you may wish to take a backup of your files in case you wish to install Opera again.

To remove the remaining files on your system, you can either delete the Opera installation folder or resort to a third party uninstaller to simply get rid of them. In fact, such uninstaller software as Perfect Uninstaller can easily get the entire Opera program removed or forcibly remove each of the left over files of it and other unwanted program like Tango Toolbar.
