Has anyone else had problems with this Searchqu program and if so how did you get it removed? A program named Search/QU has taken over the browser, which changes the home page of my browsers to Searchqu.com/406. No matter how many times I change them back to my preferences, it takes me instead to Searchqu.com. My browser is Mozilla Firefox and I have set the homepage to www.google.com however every time I open a new tab, Searchqu.com will automatically open. I have AVG Free Edition 2011 and have run couple full scans but it doesn’t seem to remove this virus-program.

Nate recently downloaded Search/QU by accident then he got into safe mode and full scanned using Avast Internet Security, Malwarebytes, hijack this and none of them got anything. He changed it back to blank several times and it just changed back to the Search/QU thing. He then browsed all over the internet on different options to disable and uninstall Searchqu and tried looking in program files to find and delete, but nothing shows up. It also still shows up as the homepage and new tab page for other users on his desktop.

I stupidly installed Bandoo after my thick friend with no computer experienced told me to download it. I was having fun with it then opened up my internet browser, and ‘Searchqu’ was my homepage. I uninstalled Bandoo and Searchqu (I have Windows 7) so should I be safe with your solution?

I’m running Windows XP. After installing iLivid Download Manager, both Firefox and IE got an unwanted Toolbar and the homepage was hijacked – it went to searchqu.com/406

Here is the solution that worked for me:
In Windows XP (it’s probably similar for Win7)-
-In Firefox addons window, uninstall the Searchqu Toolbar and DataMngr addons. I think there was something in the plugins that I deleted as well (probably had searchqu/ datamngr/ or ilivid in the name)

-Close all browsers – Firefox, IE..
-Uninstall iLivid from Control panel Add/Remove Programs tool. (skip this if got searchqu from somewhere else or if need iLivid download manager)

-Run Spybot – I had 4 entries (not sure if they were all related to the iLivid install)

-go to C:\Program Files\Windows iLivid Toolbar\Datamngr\ToolBar\uninstall (click on uninstall)
-go to C:\Program Files\Windows iLivid Toolbar\uninstall (click on uninstall)

    In C:\Program Files\Windows iLivid Toolbar\Datamngr
    Delete:
    -Browser Connection.dll
    -DnsBHO.dll
    -datamngr.dll

If can’t delete (access denied/ file in use) – Delete them in Safe Mode. Then delete from recyling bin. Restart computer.

Then change the home pages here:
    Firefox – Tools, Options, General
IE – Tools, Internet Options, General

After these steps my home page finally stopped being hijacked in both browsers, and the toolbar was gone.
