on November 1st, 2011 | 5 Comments

norton-antivirus-2011I have updated my Norton anti-virus version to the 2011, the latest version. Everything works fine, except every time I boot up I get a window from Norton that says “select your uninstall preference” and a new Icon appears on my desktop “Norton installation files”. It looks like maybe the installation never finished despite the fact that all my updates are current. How do you clear this notification or remove Norton Antivirus 2011? The following instructions are what other users commonly do to deal with this matter.

For Windows XP:

  1. In the bottom left corner click the Start button.
  2. Select the Control Panel item.
  3. In the Control Panel window click Add or Remove programs
  4. Double-click the Norton Antivirus 2011
  5. Click the button Change/Remove (if you are offered to remove related files click the button Yes, for all)
  6. Click the Next button. Application removal may take several minutes.

For Windows Vista and Windows 7:

  1. In the bottom left corner click the Start button.
  2. Select the Control Panel item in the Programs window select Programs and Features

  1. In the list of programs select Norton Anti-virus 2011.
  2. In the Setup Wizard window click the link to delete all user files, passwords and quarantined files.

User of any Windows system will be asked to restart computer to completely uninstall Norton Anti-virus 2011 by clicking the Restart button in the Setup Wizard window.

As a result of taking these steps, Norton antivirus should be removed from your computer. If Norton Anti-virus 2011 has not been removed from your computer or if an error message informs that Norton anti-virus removal was unsuccessful, you will have to delete Norton anti-virus manually or apply a professional uninstaller program like Perfect Uninstaller.

Once Perfect Uninstaller is installed and licensed, the Force Uninstall function will be enabled so that you can locate the main directories of Norton Antivirus 2011 and wiped them up. Also, a free Perfect Uninstaller can accomplish a faster and more effective removal unwanted program like uninstalling Microsoft Outlook Express than what the Windows does.
