Sunbelt Software Not Working – Should I Uninstall Sunbelt CounterSpy Enterprise In Order To Get It Installed?

My cousin wants to reinstall counterspy while the uninstalling hangs part-way through. Worse, the CounterSpy won’t normally remove itself using add/remove programs. The Microsoft installer becomes corrupt; in which case he would need to use the manual uninstall instructions below.

Below are the manual uninstalling instructions for Counterspy Enterprise. It is harder than it looks.

  1. Kill all running CounterSpy processes via Task Manager.
  2. Processes to look for include:
  3. SBCSSvc.exe (Counterspy Enterprise service)
  4. SBCSTray.exe (Counterspy Enterprise icon app) CounterSpy.exe (Counterspy Enterprise main app)
  5. Remove all the CounterSpy directories that you might have installed CounterSpy to in \Program Files. The standard install directories are:
  6. C:\Program Files\Sunbelt Software\CounterSpy (Counterspy Enterprise)
  7. Remove all \Sunbelt Software folders or files in any of these locations:
  8. C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Sunbelt Software

For Vista Users

  1. You need to stop the SCSCCvc Service within Services of Computer Management or CONTROL PANEL/SERVICES not via Task Manager.
  2. So what you are looking for:
  3. C:\USERS\USERNAME\APPDATA\SUNBELT SOFTWARE.
  4. C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\Sunbelt Software
  5. C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\ProgramData\Sunbelt Software
  6. C:\PROGRAMDATA\SUNBELT SOFTWARE
  7. Remove all the CounterSpy directories.
  8. At this point your system should be completely clean of any version of Sunbelt CounterSpy. Download and install the following third party utility

After Perfect Uninstaller installed, run it (shortcut should be on your desktop menu). The utility will display a list of programs installed through Windows Installer.

If you find any entries for Sunbelt CounterSpy Enterprise in the “Installed Products” listing, select it/them, then hit “Remove” and let the removal utility do its thing. This way, you can also successfully remove Easy Private Disk in a few clicks!
