Uninstall QuickTime – Removing QuickTime and Reinstalling iTunes

quicktime1My father has to give up on ever being able to use QuickTime again as he can’t it and uninstall it. He was trying to upgrade ITunes but when he tried to install it, message is old version of QuickTime couldn’t uninstall. QuickTime shows in his Control Panel, but every time I click on it, it does nothing. When I try to install the standalone version, it comes up and asks do you want to completely remove this program, I click ok and it gives me an error 1605 and exits.

What is QuickTime?
Needless to say, QuickTime has been a popular media player used by many professionals and consumers worldwide. If the reason being you want to install iTunes which has QuickTime with it, or during the install of iTunes it gets to a point where it says cannot remove older version of QuickTime and then stops, you need to uninstall QuickTime before installing iTunes.

To uninstall QuickTime from your computer, usually people will go to click on start and control panel. Click on install/uninstall programs. Go down to quick time and click on uninstall as follows:

1. Close QuickTime if you currently have it running and click the Windows “Start” button. Click the “Control Panel.”
2. Double-click “Add or Remove Programs” to open the programs window.
Or
1. Click “Program Features” (Windows Vista users) and click “Uninstall a Program” to open the programs window.
2. Scroll through the programs window and click the QuickTime version you have installed on your computer. Click “Remove/uninstall” and click “Yes” to confirm and uninstall it from your computer.
3. Remove the QuickTime folder from your computer. To do so, click the Windows “Start” button and click “My Computer.”
If you get this action is only valid for Products currently installed” when tying to take off QuickTime through Windows’ utility, or it still gives you error when you just manually dumped all QuickTime related folders and files, it is time to apply an uninstaller program to have it taken care of.
