A while back my mother downloaded and installed WebRoot Spy Sweeper and has been using it. She now wants to uninstall it as she seeks to another spyware removal tool. Unfortunately, the Webroot doesn’t allow her to uninstall it. If she use ‘Add and remove’ or go to All programs and select WebRoot then Spy Sweeper then Uninstall an error window pops up “Runtime Error (219:73): Could not call proc.” She has run Search all files and programs of Spysweeper, select all and delete but no joy!
What makes Spy Sweeper so hard to remove?
Actually, Spysweeper is a Windows antivirus program that protects your computer from malicious spyware such as tracking cookies and various other programs that can occur from browsing the internet. Some people consider Webroot Spysweeper to be one of the best internet security programs around, others strongly disagree. Although it may increase your safety when searching the net it will also slow down your computer a great degree. It can also be an inconvenience as this software constantly plagues you with pop-ups and warning messages.
If you are no longer using the program, you need to uninstall it to free up system resources such as hard drive space, and also decreases the possibility of conflict issues with any other spyware removal program.
Uninstall Spy Sweeper using Windows utility
If Webroot allows you to uninstall Spy Sweeper using the built-in uninstall utility, the most effective way to uninstall it is to let Microsoft Windows uninstall the software automatically. This can be done by clicking on the Start Button then selecting Control Panel and then select Add and Remove Programs.
Occasionally this method will not work, and produce an error about not being able to uninstall the software. You should right click on the Spy Sweeper icon on the right hand side of the toolbar where the clock is located and select exit to shut down the program. Next, you should go to press ctrl + alt + delete which will open the Task Manager. Click on the Processes tab. Search for spysweeper.exe. If this process is running click on it then select end process. Repeat this step to search for and close the process WRSSSDK.exe. After this is done Spy Sweeper should be able to be removed by using Add/Remove Programs
Although this Windows built-in utility will delete the Spy Sweeper from your computer desktop, it will not get rid of all of the files and folders that are associated with it. To do this you will have to manually remove them from the system registry. If you don’t know a huge amount about computer then there is quite a lot of danger in doing this. If you remove the wrong file then you may corrupt other data and cause programs to stop running.
